Youngstars- Forever Young

The real-time presence of a youngstar is fairly short. He starts performing at the age of 6 or 8 or 12 years and often continue into the teen years. Some are fortunate enough to make the transition from youngstar to adultstar. So, for those who enjoy YS there is a narrow window of time when they are "current". Very quickly they become youngstars of yesterday and the focus is shifted to a new group of current young actors, singers, etc. Fresh new talent is always welcome but I personally don't like to put the former YS up on a shelf just as a pleasant memory of what used to be. I see them as frozen in time- forever youngstars- and I continue to appreciate the movies, songs, etc. They may be age 40 now but, in my mind, those adult versions are totally separate people from the youngstar version. As you see from my posts, I like to keep those classics very much alive and hopefully introduce them to fans who were not even born when these YS were at their prime.

For me, performers like Joey Lawrence, Leif Garrett, Brian Bonsall and many hundreds of others are just as real, relevant and enjoyable as the present day ones like Nick Romeo Reimann, Miles Heizer, Alex Gould, Luke Benward and scores of other YS that are currently performing. Since being a youngstar fan involves a good measure of fantasy, it is only natural to think of these stars as "forever young". :knuddel:

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Interesting considerations :)

However when I read the title of the thread a specific YS came into my mind... ;)

Forever young - there was a movie with that title :) But to answer you question - I am not sure how it goes for me. Recently a friend of mine was wondering how come I do not know Barret Oliver ... ( for his this was almost an outrageous thing ) so I guess every generation has its own young starts - now Chase Ellison , Antonio Jose , Freddie Highmore - may be I will react the same way after few years when someone says to me that he has not even heard of " my " young stars. Then there is this thing - Billy Gilman , Steklovata, the members of Hanson ...etc - they are all grown now - and yet I fail to see them changed - may be because their image of the time when they were all around has stuck to my mind ( plus strangely enough its feels like only they have grown - and not me - which of course can`t be possible ) .

lol hopefully I won`t confuse you as much with this post :gruebel: as I just confused myself

Yes Pyxis, Elijah is a very good example. His film FOREVER YOUNG is part of my long list of favorite movies.
Skykid, you make a good point about the generational thing. But, I suppose the ideal is to expand our YS knowledge and interests across many generations. I still enjoy watching the Tarzan films with Johnny Sheffield and those were in the early 1940's around the time I was born. While watching these films it never occurs to me that "Boy" (Johnny) is now nearly age 79 :D I simply see and enjoy the YS

I also enjoyed these Tarzan movies. It was the time when the series with Ron Ely was shown on TV.
In my dreams I ran through the bushes and trees as Jai. My first Post here at CW was about Johnny Sheffield.
Seems to me my nick is related to this ;)

I have recordings of all the Johnny Sheffield Tarzan films as well as the films in which Tommy Carlton, Steve Bond and Rickie Sorensen played the role of Boy. All 4 of those YS were great but I guess Sheffield remains my favorite. Fortunately I recorded all of those several years ago when they still came on TV from time to time.
Another example of a "forever youngstar" is Jay North who played the original Dennis the Menace character on TV. I have a lot of those episodes recorded and I still enjoy watching them. I'm not sure if that series ever appeared outside the USA.

For the last years I was able to collect nearly all Tarzan movies. Only the first silent movies I could not
find on DVD or VHS. Some are TV recordings from the german TV-Station "Kabel 1".
Since I moved to DVD I would prefer DVD's instead of VHS. I still have to move some VHS to DVD...

My first memory of Jay North was when I watched the movie "Maya" here known as "Gefahr im Tal der Tiger".
It took a long time till it was repeated on TV... Finaly I got it a few years ago on VHS :)

That's an interesting topic here and I believe everything has their own perception on it somehow which makes this subject indeed so broad.

Personally I oftenly find myself associating particular periods of time with specific actors whilst at the mean time I don't tend to see them as history; closed page. I've seen so many young stars comming and going. Sometimes for example when I come to think of early 90s of the past century I'll think of them as "the time of Macaulay Culkin, Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazzello". When I think of late 90s I'll associate it as "the age of Haley Joel Osment, Jake Lloyd, Seth Adkins, Michael Angarano and so on". Years late I will associate 2008 with the current top names. But in the mean time it feels as if it was all happening in few days time. It's been more than 10 years since the time when I would stay whole nights trying to download two short clips from David Gallagher's film Bermuda Triangle. It's been 8 years since the night when I nearly broke the TV set with an empty bottle of Coke when Haley Joel Osment didn't win the Oscar. But this all I feel as if it was the last night. For me it's like I still live in these ages; in all of them at the same time and I guess this is like they never end for me. Like the character from the movie which has the same title as this thread, but it's not the actors that have been frozen, it's their age which has been set to repeat mode over and over.

I hope I won't confuse anyone with these thoughts of mine as it all may look like a contradiction.

Maximus, you described the situation quite well. Indeed all of our favorite actors are timeless and all of them from whatever time period, co-exist together for us. In my mind, all of my YS from the past 50+ years could easily come together now and make a film ;+: Such a fantasy but wouldn't that be wonderful!! Many of you are younger than I am and, trust me, as you progress in age your YS favorities from each period will move along with you and they will forever be the age at which you most remember them. And, as Maximus said, you will at the same time be living in ALL of those YS periods that will span 10, 20, 30, 50 or more years. ;)
