Fourteen-year-old diver Bryan Nickson of Malaysia made a big splash Friday night, morphing into one of the darlings of the Athens Olympics with his modest 19th-place finish in the 10-meter platform event.

He barely passes for 10 -- with his baby face, bony body and shy, soft voice. And at only 4-foot-6 and 66 pounds, Nickson was dwarfed atop the 33-foot-high platform, yet fans went wild each time he ascended the ladder.

After each dive, Nickson climbed out of the pool and bowed.

"The crowd was with me," said Nickson, who barely spoke above a whisper. "It supported me a lot, even though that made me a bit nervous.""
